The Mission of the IFCMD shall be to be a coalition of individuals and association drawn from many religious persuasions that support efforts to:
- Foster more positive perspectives on homosexual, bisexual, and transgender peoples within religious bodies in cooperation with existing gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender friendly religious organizations.
- Implement a program of education and awareness to counter societal oppression of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons within the state of Maryland.
- Nurture a robust, broadly based, statewide interfaith coalition that will develop advocates from within religious bodies, for fair treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons in Maryland.
- Educate each other on our diverse faith communities, teaching respect by example, so that our interfaith understandings are informed from practice, not from another community's history.
The purpose of IFCMD shall be:
- To increase the number of congregations, parishes, churches, temples and other religious bodies and organizations in Maryland which are consciously inclusive in their membership and leadership of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender persons.
- To, having increased the support of inclusiveness in congregations, parishes, churches, temples and other religious bodies and organizations in Maryland, move higher level church organizations and governing bodies to accept inclusive congregations and to approve, the calling, ordaining, and installing of clergy without regard to sexual orientation.
- To encourage those congregations and governing bodies to support the full inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender adult persons in all aspects of civil society.
- To foster interfaith understanding through dialogue and study of faith histories to ensure direct knowledge through experience of actual practitioners rather than third-party references.
The IFCMD shall:
- Be an inclusive group welcoming those who agree to support its mission and purpose;
- Not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, handicapping condition, creed, age, gender, marital status, national origin/ancestry, or sexual orientation.
- Maintain policies ensuring that every effort is made to create staff, membership, Committee and Program compositions reflective of this stance.
